Communications – Standard

Standard communication: reliable and cost-efficient

The standard communications for telecontrol are based on IEC 60870-5-103 and are implemented via an RS-485 interface, which is integrated in all devices as standard. This solution offers a fast, reliable and economical option for data transmission in protection and control systems.

  • Protected integration: The interface is safely integrated on the back of the unit and is connected to an RS-485 bus via a screw terminal.
  • Network capability: Up to 32 devices can be connected to one RS-485 bus.
  • Compatibility with control system: Operation is via control system or PC using the IEC 60870-5-103 protocol.
  • Data availability: Events and fault data are transmitted directly to the control center.
Communications – Optical

Optical communications: safe and flexible

Telecontrol communications can be extended by an optical interface, which is also based on the IEC 60870-5-103 protocol.

  • Reliable alternative: Optical interfaces enable connection to the control system via an optical star coupler.
  • Extended device availability: This communication solution is integrated in all devices except DIGISAVE.
  • Transmission reliability: events and fault data are also reliably available in the control center

Communications – Ethernet

Ethernet communication: modern and versatile

The Ethernet interface is a modern solution for telecontrol communications and is based on IEC 61850, the standard for substation automation and protection technology.

  • Flexible connection options: Choice of electrical or optical connection, protected on the back of the unit.
  • Advanced operation: Monitoring and control via Ethernet (TCP/IP) with support for IEC 61850.
  • Comprehensive protocol support: IEC 61850-8-1: Supports functions such as MMS and GOOSE, ideal for protection and control systems in electrical substations.
  • Optional feature: The Ethernet interface can be ordered as an additional option
